Pros and Cons of Staying at a Value Resort

In Walt Disney World they have 3 different type of resorts. Value Resorts, Moderate Resorts and Deluxe Resorts. In this posts we’ll discuss everything there is to know about Value Resorts. The value resorts that are offered at Walt Disney World Resort are All Star Sports Resort, All Star Music Resort, All Star Movies, Pop Century Resort and Art of Animation Resort. While all of these resorts are similar in aesthetics, they all immerse you in a different atmosphere that Moderate and Deluxe resorts don’t.

DISNEY’S ALL STAR SPORTS RESORT

Disney

Disney’s All Star Sports Resort is one of the most visited value resorts, especially since many high school kids visit yearly for athletic events, competitions and more!

Pros

  • Affordable room rates starting around $99 per night
  • Food options are reasonably priced
  • Larger than life Disney characters that are used to distinguish different sections in the resort
  • Large themed pools
  • Lowest Parking Fee out of the 3 types of resorts

Cons

  • Oldest value resort
  • Can be quite noisy
  • Shares busses with all All Star Resorts during the offseason
  • Rooms are not refurbished and are quite outdated (Refurbishment scheduled in near future)
  • No options for suites
  • No Table-Service Dining
  • No Recreation, Spas, or Gyms
  • Only offers full size mattresses compared to queen in Moderate and Deluxe
  • Nightly Parking Fee of $15 (Updated June 2019)

Summary

Overall this resort is good for those who are looking for an affordable option. The resort offers the perfect setting for the entire family still getting the Disney experience. However, if other options are available for Value Resorts, we suggest those, as the Sports is our least favorite Value Resort.

DISNEY’S ALL STAR MUSIC RESORT

Overall this resort to is a good choice for those who are looking for an affordable option, just like most value resorts. The resort offers the perfect setting for the entire family still getting the Disney experience. Unfortunately like the sports, it is still outdated but will be refurbished soon.

Out the three All Star Resorts, Movies is our favorite. This resort is nearing completion of having ALL of its rooms completely refurbished.

Summary

This resort, like all the other All Stars, is a decent option if money is a big consideration. That being said, the Movies Resort is now the nicest option out of the three All Star Resorts.

DISNEY’S POP CENTURY RESORT

Now onto Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Out of all the value resorts we recommend this resort as the top choice and here’s why!

Pros

  • It’s a newer hotel than the All Stars
  • Just completed refurbishment
  • Has its own busses to and from parks
  • Includes the new transportation system, the Disney Skyliner (Opening Soon 2019)
  • 3 themed pools and a splash fountain for kids
  • Food options are reasonably priced
  • Larger than life Disney characters that are used to distinguish different sections in the resort
  • Lowest Parking Fee out of the 3 types of resorts

Cons

  • A little more expensive than the All Star Resorts
  • Same room size as other value resorts
  • Only offers full size mattresses compared to queen in Moderate and Deluxe
  • No vallet
  • No recreation, spas, or gyms

Summary

Overall this resort is the best Value option. It is only slightly higher in price than the All Star Resorts at the moment, and we think it is well worth the extra money. The Pop Century could however increase in price due to the Disney Skyliner opening later this year.

DISNEY’S ART OF ANIMATION RESORT

Located right across hour glass lake from the Pop Century sits Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. This is the newest of the value resorts and while they offer 864 standard rooms in the Little Mermaid Themed Section, it primarily consists of family suites. This makes this resort technically a “Value Plus” resort.

Pros

  • Larger than life theming in Finding Nemo, The Lion King, Cars, and Little Mermaid
  • Larger variety of food options in food court
  • 3 themed pools
  • The Big Blue Pool is the biggest pool on Disney Property that offers under water music
  • Splash Area for children
  • Playground
  • Dedicated busses to and from the park
  • All rooms are new and clean
  • Connected to the Disney Skyliner
  • Suites have a fridge, microwave, and kitchen counter sink
  • Suites are entirely themed in Finding Nemo, Lion King, Cars, or Little Mermaid

Cons

  • Very spread out resort which results in even more walking
  • Highest priced value resort
  • No Table-Service
  • No Recreations, Spas, or gyms
  • No vallet

Summary

If money is not so much of an issue for you and your family, this resort is by far the nicest and newest themed resorts on the entire Walt Disney World Property. Although this resort offers standard rooms, they are still higher than other value resorts.

OVERALL SUMMARY

If your’e on a budget and just looking for somewhere to lay your head down at night and are a busy park goer, then a value resort is a good option for you. Although they don’t offer as many accommodations as Moderate and Deluxe resorts do, they do a good job of immersing your entire family of “being in Disney”. If we had to pick the best resort based off of price, cleanliness, theming and transportation, then we would choose Disney’s Pop Century. Here’s how the others would rank.

  1. Pop Century
  2. All Star Movies
  3. Art of Animation
  4. All Star Music
  5. All Star Sports
