‘Ohana Dining Review
OVERALL GRADE: 9.5/10
‘Ohana, located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, is the perfect family-style restaurant. During the operating hours, ‘Ohana offers breakfast and dinner. We have only been for dinner, as we think that breakfast is pretty much the same anywhere across the resort. Don’t take that the wrong way however, Disney breakfast is amazing, it’s just that we think the value is in the lunches in dinners across the resort, unless of course you wanted to have a character breakfast, then that’s a little different.
In this review we’ll show you some pictures, give you our opinion on the food, and the entire experience as a whole. So, let’s dive in…
I’m sure you’ve heard it by now that you have to try ‘Ohana the next time you’re in Disney World. And those people are absolutely right! Starting off with the views and atmosphere of the restaurant. Like mentioned, ‘Ohana is at the Polynesian Resort, one of the best resorts on property due to its amazing views of Magic Kingdom, monorail access, and the resort itself is amazing with its Polynesian touches. But the main reason this resort is so great, is because of this amazing restaurant.
So, first things first, you get to the front desk, and they will MOST LIKELY have you wait. We have had to wait every time we have been there even with a reservation, sometimes upwards of 30 minutes. I know every case is different, and sure it doesn’t happen to everyone. Having said that, we don’t mind the wait at all because of how great this restaurant is.
Once seated, your server will introduce themselves, tell you about what ‘Ohana stands for and how the night will go. First off, family-style side dishes come out, this includes, pork dumplings, lo mein noodles, stir-fried vegetables, and salad. But!, make sure you don’t fill up on this because you’ll soon realize that the best is still yet to come. But as for these side dishes, they’re amazing!
The next thing that arrives at your table is all of the meats cooked and served on skewers. All of the meats are cooked over a fire pit and include Oak Grilled Chicken, Asian Barbecued Pork Loin, Marinated Sirloin Steak, Spicy Grilled Shrimp, and Honey Coriander Chicken Wings. These are usually brought out one at a time in the order above except for the honey chicken that comes in the beginning. So while the pork and chicken are great, be sure to save room for the steak and shrimp if you want the most bang for your buck. Also, keep in mind that there isn’t a limit on how much you can have, so it would be pretty hard to leave there still hungry. The flavors of these proteins are just phenomenal having great flavor from the fire pit.
And finally, once you’re full and can’t eat another bite, comes the BEST bread pudding I have ever eaten in my entire life. This bread pudding is served warm with a scoop of ice cream, warm caramel and banana sauce to top over it which makes the ice cream melt a little all over the dessert. Like I said, it’s the BEST! Trust me! If you don’t like bread pudding, still try it because I have had people say that and then try ‘Ohana bread pudding, and changed their views after eating it.
Overall, ‘Ohana is a must-try! Be aware however, this is not the place to go if your looking for a calm and quiet evening. It can get pretty loud throughout the service, so just be aware of that. This however has no impact on the experience for us because we’re loud ourselves so we fit right in I guess. And if your there and happen to have a good seat, you can see Happily Ever After from the restaurant at your table which is a very cool experience. We give this a 9.5/10 because it’s one of the best places on property to go and have an amazing experience. The only reason it’s not a 10/10 is for the wait, other than that, it basically is a 10/10 in our book!
