In an unexpected turn, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has earned the lowest opening weekend earnings from the latest trilogy. Despite these turn of events, the film has been very successful during it’s first weekend at the theater, and has still to made A LOT of money, joining the other 6 Disney related films that earned over $1 Billion during their theatrical runs in 2019.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film has made $1 Billion+ globally, showing that The Rise of Skywalker is still trending lower than the previous films in the new trilogy around the world. Now, these numbers are nothing to cry about. That is still incredible numbers for any movie studio. Several other factors, however, could be leading to the downward trend. Many fans around the world are just too busy with the holidays and have long breaks with time to see the film and simply are not rushing to the theater.
Although critics have not been the nicest about this movie, audience reactions are the opposite and are happy with the ending of this 42 year old story.
